Lochgilphead Front Green

Lochgilphead, Scotland

Case Studies

The recreation of the Lochgilphead Front Green has been a long-term aspiration for the local community as it provides an important social space at the heart of the community. Timberplay worked as as a specialist play consultant, alongside the main designer ERZ, to modernise the green by implementing play equipment for children to enjoy.

The play area is equipped with a variety of equipment that all offer different play values. At the heart of the playground, a climbing structure is situated with logs at various angles, as well as a net to use as support. The climbing structure is a great way for children to test and develop their physical capabilities, as the varying angles of the logs increase the amount of coordination required. The logs are angled downwards from the peak of the structure, encouraging smaller and less confident children to test the structure lower to the ground before manoeuvring to the peak.

A Small Pyramid Tower equipped with a tunnel slide provides a focal point for the playground where children can peak through the gaps in the timber before sliding down back to ground level. Nearby the Pyramid Tower sits a small timber house on stilts which offers children a wonderful space for imaginary play away from the adults! The two levels offer additional play value as children can crawl under the structure and play adventure games or build dens. A Small Platform Hut provides a great piece of equipment for younger children’s imagination as they can climb the mini tower to gain a small vantage point over the playground. After they have had their fun at the top, a small slide gives them an easy exit point back to ground level.

On the opposite end of the playground a High Twin Swing makes for the exciting swing motion to be experienced which can be very comforting. The Twin Swing allows for friends to battle each other on who can swing further or for parents to demonstrate to younger children how to gain momentum on the swing. The final play addition is a unique Double Hammock Seat which offers either a nice place for children to relax or one where children can swing each other and experience the swinging motion lying down!
